There are two big mistakes about the size of the arapaima and the wels catfis Silurus glanis. The reported maximum sizes come both from very old and uncorrect sources, but sadly found their way in many books and even scientific literature. The actual record for the arapaima is in fact 2,65m and 185kg (note that this is already nearly as much as the weight given for the alleged 4,5m specimen) and 2,78m and 144kg for the wels.
