Sharbat Gula, The Afghan Girl Finally Found After 17 Years

Sharbat Gula, an Afghan woman of Pashtun ethnicity who has been famous when her picture appeared in the National Geographic magazine in 1985, was finally found by the same person who photographed her 17 years ago.

She’s the famous National Geographic Magazine cover girl. Her name is Sharbat Gula and the original picture, called 'Afghan Girl', was taken in a Pakistani refugee camp by photographer Steve McCurry for National Geographic in 1985, when she was approximately 13 years old. The second one was made 17 year later, in 2002, when a team of experts finally located and identified her, using biometric technology.
