Ken Hildebrand, Trapped Under His Car for Four Days, Survived by Eating Rotten Meat

Ken Hildebrand, a polio victim was trapped under his car when it rolled over. He survived by eating rotten meat for four days before being found by a hiker.
Ken Hildebrand of Fort McMurray was collecting animal traps about 50 miles southwest of Calgary on Jan 8 when his vehicle hit a rock and rolled over, trapping him underneath.Link
Mr Hildebrand, who has a weak leg due to polio, was face down on the snowy ground with the vehicle pinning his strong leg.
"It's amazing that he's alive. I can't believe it," Troy Linderman, director of Crowsnest Pass emergency medical service, said. "Ken is as tough as nails."
Mr Hildebrand kept himself alive, if sick, by eating the rotting meat of the animals he had collected and using a beaver carcass to keep himself warm.
Eventually he resorted to nibbling on the beaver's bones. "I tried to eat pieces of that, but it made me sick and I threw up," he said.
To stave off dehydration he pulled surveyor's tape through his teeth to suck up the dew. "I ate a lot of dirt to get a little moisture," he said.
Mr Hildebrand also blew a whistle to scare away coyotes that growled just a few feet away: "It was time to get ready for survival mode."

I saw the piece on Animal Planet about Ken Hildebrand. I don't feel sorry for him at all. He butchers defenseless animals, trapping beavers in inhumane traps, saying that he does it to keep the population of the beavers in check. That's bullshit, he likes to kill them. Now he sees how horrific his traps are first hand. And he uses their poor carcasses as leverage for his axe,as a means to keep himself warm, to eat. I think God was trying to show him that he loves all his creatures. It saddens God to see Mr. Hildebrand to set traps and see his creatures suffer. I think God wanted Hildebrand to see the same suffering he inflicts on life. He was trapped, he had nothing to help him, he was cold. Just like the animals he trapped, he was miserable, only he had help, I don't think he deserved it.

Ken shows us all what hope, and courage can bring us. Thank God he survived to tell us his story.
